Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

GS-05: One year of specialized experience to at least the GS-04 level or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience must include knowledge of the nature and capability of word processing software procedures and function keys to perform a substantial range of functions such as generating tables of contents, importing graphs or databases, creating glossaries, aligning multiple columns, automatically printing document identification or other notations at the top or bottom of each page, and creating form letters and automatically merging these with mailing lists.

GS-06: One year of specialized experience to at least the GS-05 level or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience must include knowledge of a body of rules, procedures, policies, regulations, precedent case files, and programs to perform the technical, personnel, administrative and workgroup support work of the organization and provide a variety of support and assistance to staff members.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-06 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes knowledge of standard processes and procedures for evaluating program efficiency to implement processes to improve programs; knowledge of organizational structure in order to assess manpower authorizations and utilization; and knowledge of the basic objectives and policies governing various management or program operations.

GS-08:One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-07 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which include knowledge of administrative procedures associated with record keeping; the use of standard office equipment such as fax machine, copy machine, and computer systems including software, databases, and word processing; and the determination of supplies and funds needed to operate programs.

GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-08 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes knowledge of a body of established rules, procedures, policies, regulations, precedent case files, and programs to perform the technical, personnel, administrative and operational support work of the organization and provide a variety of support and assistance to assigned personnel.

GS-10: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-09 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes knowledge of the functional capabilities of different software types to select the best software type for each report, e.g., a database versus a spreadsheet; to identify the sorting and calculating functions to be performed, and to set up the detailed functional procedures needed to enter and to retrieve the data in the form needed for each report.

GS-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-10 in the Federal service, which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes knowledge of directives outlining the safeguarding of sensitive and classified material and organizational procedures for the sorting, collection and delivery of official mail; knowledge and skill in applying basic arithmetic to verify figures in requests for allotments, to determine availability of funds, and to enter and maintain account balances to reflect funds available and/or expended; and skill in preparing and maintaining a variety of financial records (e.g. budget requests/justification, unfunded requirements, contracting documents, expenditure documents, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Working knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures to distribute mail, answer telephone, keep appointment calendar, maintain files/office forms, and order supplies.
  2. Ability to learn organization's functions and procedures sufficient to receive visitors or telephone calls, distribute mail, and maintain files, etc.
  3. Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support, including locally developed equipment operating and document processing instructions, which are directly applicable to the work.
  4. Ability to learn filing systems and procedures.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively orally using tact and courtesy

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Post-secondary students may be noncompetitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of successful completion of their academic program requirements.

These positions are being filled under Direct-Hire Authority for the Department of Defense for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates. The Secretary of the Air Force has delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense to directly appoint qualified post-secondary students and recent graduates directly into competitive service positions; these positions may be professional or administrative occupations and are located Air Force-Wide. Positions may be filled as permanent or term with a full-time or part-time work schedule. Pay will vary by geographic location. * The term "Current post-secondary student" means a person who is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and is making satisfactory progress toward receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and has completed at least one year of the program. * The term "recent graduate" means a person who was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than two years before the date of the appointment of such person, except in the case of a person who has completed a period of obligated service in a uniform service of more than four years.
