Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. Financial Analyst – Management Reporting in Newport News, Virginia

Job Description:

Act as a Decision Support contact for requests for Management Reporting, which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Enhance the Management Reporting processes through continuous improvement efforts: enhance visual aids to portray results and provide more actionable results for the business, streamline the process to reduce non-value added activities during the process.

  • Assist in the maintenance, design, and validation of standard management reporting, assuring that they are actionable and meets customer needs

  • Understand data sources and definitions to identify ways of adding value to the business through report development and data requests.

  • Be responsive to new report requests that arise as we change our business model and related reporting needs/requirements

  • Work closely with other DSC Groups in assessing when to convert repetitive ad hoc reporting requests into standard monthly reports

  • Revise/Modify existing reports/queries to maintain alignment with other existing reports and business definitions

  • Work with DSC department, Business Groups, and Field Finance members to understand their needs in developing recurring management reporting or dashboards incorporating input from PeopleSoft Financials, BI data warehouse, and other non-PeopleSoft sources

  • Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and deliver high quality, accurate, and timely results

Other areas of responsibility

  • Be an active participant and provide in special projects to support DSC goals, visions and requests

  • Provide supporting data to assist with analysis to highlight significant variances from Budget, Prior Year, etc in standard management reports for Field Finance and Executive Leadership

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in Finance, Analytics or Accounting within the private sector in for-profit enterprises

  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft software applications (i.e., Access, Excel)

  • Experience with designing reports utilizing Excel

  • Ability to work on several projects at once

  • Ability to present detailed analysis and research results to all levels within the organization

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to solve difficult and sometimes complex problems

  • Ability to effectively communicate financial/data-driven results to management and a larger audience

  • Must possess organizational skills and a detail-oriented nature

Preferred, not required

  • Knowledge of SQL basic query building and design

  • Advanced technical knowledge of VBA code macros, SQL, etc.

  • Experience with designing reports utilizing Microsoft Power BI or COGNOS for analysis a plus
