External Job Description:

Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

Basic Qualifications:

This job requires - Apprentice School graduate, or a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of shipbuilding, related military, manufacturing, or production operations experience OR - 3 years experience at the Prod Plng and Scheduler 1 level OR - 3 years of testing/production management experience (e.g. Foreman) OR - 11 years experience in manufacturing, production operations or related military service (inclusive of 2 years supervisory/leadership experience or Planning/Production Control/Naval systems specialized training experience) and possess a well-founded knowledge of production operations, production processes, ship systems, and planning methods and schedules and/or plant maintenance activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Exposure to network scheduling techniques is highly preferred.

This position is in support of the Machine Shop Production Control Team on the shop floor. In this position, the candidate will be collocated with M53 Production Foremen and coordinate the sequence of work across various work centers, problem solve for various input issues and provide regular, accurate statuses for all material within the assigned AOR.

Experience with manufacturing/shop planning and network scheduling techniques is highly preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time

  • Lifting of up to 25 lbs

  • Exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection

  • Work within a close quarters manufacturing and ship construction environment

  • Occasionally stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, climb, twist and walk

  • Use hands to handle, touch and manipulate items

  • Have vision abilities to include proximate vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus as well as to be able to effectively see and process computer generated images on a screen or hand-held device
